With the ongoing G20 Presidency for one year that commenced from December 1 2022, to November 30 2023, India will host a total of 215 G-20 meetings over 55 locations next year, four of which will be focused on promoting the tourism sector.
In order to encash and keep the G20 momentum going for the Indian MICE industry, the ministry of tourism, Government of India is considering a separate MICE fund to support ‘Meet in India’ branding and marketing of India. This fund will also support the stakeholders in participating in bidding for large and prestigious MICE events.
The government has ‘principally agreed’ to the suggestion of the private industry in this regard. A dedicated fund for MICE will be carved out from the total overseas marketing budget for the tourism ministry.
The government also agreed to revive and revamp the Champions sector service scheme to deliver incentives to the MICE industry for hosting international events and delegates. The government is said to have assured the private stakeholders that the scheme which was in a limbo for the last two years due to global pandemic will be revived in consultation with the nodal ministry of commerce and industry.
As mentioned in the National Strategy Document, the ministry is planning to have the first annual ‘MICE India’ event in Bengaluru some time in April 2023. According to industry sources, the plan is to have a mega B2B event for MICE with around 1000 buyers attending the event. All the G20 countries and the invitee countries will have stalls at the mega event. In preparation, the ministry together with the private industry associations will organise roadshows in key cities to promote the event.
