The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) hosts a grand celebration to commemorate 50 years of the iconic Wankhede Stadium. The week-long festivities will culminate in a star-studded event on January 19, showcasing cricket legends, live performances, and heartfelt tributes to the stadium’s storied history.
The celebrations kicked off on January 12 with an exciting cricket match between MCA officials and a team of Consul Generals and bureaucrats. On January 15, MCA will honor the invaluable contributions of groundsmen from various clubs with the Polly Umrigar Health Camp, a special lunch, and a recognition ceremony.
The highlight of the celebrations will be the main event on January 19, featuring cricketing icons such as Sachin Tendulkar, Sunil Gavaskar, Rohit Sharma, Ajinkya Rahane, Ravi Shastri, Dilip Vengsarkar, Suryakumar Yadav, and Diana Edulji. The event will also bring together legendary male and female cricketers who have represented Mumbai at both domestic and international levels.
Mandira Bedi and Prasanna Sant will host the evening, which will include performances by renowned artists Avadhoot Gupte and Ajay-Atul, as well as a spectacular laser show. A commemorative coffee table book and a postal stamp honoring Wankhede Stadium’s legacy will be unveiled during the event.
