A-Lister Knownsense Studios Talks About Challenges in Projection Mapping with a Limited Time Frame

Knownsense Studios is a multidisciplinary design company and has been exploiting expertise of its heterogeneous set spanning across the vocations of 3D projection mapping, animation, interactive applications, and augmented reality. They are constantly creating something new and have over 50 projection mappings to their credit.

When quizzed on the most challenging projects taken up by their company in the last 2 years and how their expertise helped them achieve the objectives of the project, Himanshu Ghosh, Director, Knownsense Studios said, “An interactive 3D projection mapping was done for the first time for national television for India’s Got Talent 6, where we wanted to shock and awe the audience with something not yet witnessed. The whole set of IGT was mapped by us for an episode in which we received wonderful reviews for performing a horror act. The other challenge here was that the episodes were shot in a limited time-frame, in which we had to conceptualize, write script, create content, prepare the act and finally execute the projection as well.

Challenge here was to ideate and create interactive 3D projection mapping content in short intervals of time. Also, as we decided to map the complete set of IGT, it became a challenge in itself. As it’s hard to get an accurate AutoCAD or 3D file of the set to create a proper canvas for our content creation, we had to resort to innovative alternate methods to create a canvas. After that during technical trials we had to do speed mapping of the whole complex set as we were given only a few minutes for setup. Due to our technically talented team, we were able to overcome these challenges.”

Knownsense Studios with just a few years of experience in the industry have been successful in making a mark by being the first in the country to be the record holders of LIMCA Book of Records for 3D projection.
