Hyundai Motor India Foundation (HMIF), the corporate social responsibility (CSR) arm of Hyundai Motor India, has launched the fourth season of its flagship art initiative, ‘Art for Hope.’ This three-day art and culture festival, held at Travancore Palace in New Delhi, celebrated 50 grant-winning artists and art collectives from 15 states across India. With a total grant of INR 60 lakhs, the initiative aims to champion artistic expression, preserve India’s rich cultural heritage, and foster social progress through creativity.
The event was inaugurated by Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Union Minister of Culture and Tourism, Government of India, alongside key dignitaries, including Unsoo Kim, Managing Director of Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL), Gopalakrishnan CS, Trustee of HMIF, Jeongick Lee, Function Head of Corporate Affairs at HMIL, and Puneet Anand, Vertical Head of Corporate Communication & Social at HMIL.
‘Art for Hope – Season 4’ featured a diverse range of artistic expressions, including traditional and contemporary art forms. Among the highlights were specialized art workshops on indigenous art styles such as Sanjhi papercut art from Mathura, Lippan art from Gujarat, and Kalamkari art from Andhra Pradesh. The event also showcased enthralling theater performances by artists from New Delhi and Maharashtra, alongside dance and documentary presentations featuring Lavani, Ottan Thullal, Theyyam, and Yakshagana.
A special musical performance by a band of exceptionally talented artists with disabilities was a key attraction, underscoring the initiative’s commitment to inclusivity. Additionally, the festival featured an Artisan Fest, where 15 eco-friendly art and craft NGOs and small enterprises displayed their work, further promoting sustainability in the arts. Engaging speaker sessions and roundtable discussions were also conducted on pertinent topics such as ‘Art from Waste’ and ‘Inclusivity in Design and the Arts.’
Ensuring accessibility for all, the exhibition incorporated features for visitors with mobility issues, hearing impairments, and vision impairments. These included tactile artworks, audio-visual sign language tours, and braille descriptions, making the art experience inclusive and immersive.
Through ‘Art for Hope,’ grant recipients receive not only financial support but also social and professional recognition, as well as emotional encouragement to sustain their artistic careers. Over the past four seasons, HMIF has empowered 150 artists and art collectives with direct financial assistance amounting to INR 1.65 crore. This initiative has positively impacted over 25,000 artisans, reaffirming HMIF’s dedication to preserving India’s artistic heritage and nurturing talent for future generations.
