After Narendra Modi Stadium in Motera, Ahmedabad is going to have more stadiums of the international standard coming up in the city. The Government of India and the Gujarat government have given in-principle approval to the proposal to set up a football stadium of Olympics standard and four stadiums of the international level in Ahmedabad.
According to sources, the basic plan has already been approved by the Centre and the state government, and the Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (Auda) has initiated the process to issue tenders for the five stadiums.
The master plan for the SVP Sports Enclave has been made keeping in mind the requirements for organizing Olympics events. The enclave is likely to play a pivotal role in India’s bid to host the 2036 Olympics. In October, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced India’s desire to host Summer Olympics 2036 and also Summer Youth Olympics 2030.
The venues will include a 50,000 capacity football stadium, two indoor arenas of capacities 18,000 and 10,000 each, an aquatics centre of 12,000 capacities and a tennis centre of 10,000 capacities. In addition, adequate space has been provided to create a vibrant riverfront and to develop temporary venues as per future requirements. The venues have been designed to allow not just hosting sporting competitions but they can also host various entertainment and business events.
