Cyrus Broacha The Welfare of Stray Dogs (WSD) Adopt an Indie

NGO The Welfare of Stray Dogs (WSD) has launched a campaign themed #VocalForLocals to encourage the adoption of indie dogs that are native to the country but found more on the streets than in homes.

At the core of the campaign is a film that spells out the human bias against adoption of indies, through the eyes of an indie dog that has found its home thanks to loving humans who adopted it.

The film has been produced by Another Idea and directed by Hiten Bhatia pro bono for the cause.

WSD has been conducting mass sterilisation programmes for street dogs since 1994, besides offering on-site first aid and vaccination services and education and awareness programmes. It pioneered adoption of indies in 1995 and was also the first organisation in Mumbai to have ‘Adoptathons’ for indies.

WSD’s Abodh Aras said, “The indie dog is a hardy, loving, good looking, low-maintenance animal that is unfortunately neglected and seen as a “stray”. I am glad Another Idea came forward to make a film that highlights the pressing need to adopt these wonderful
Animals.”

Gaurav Gandhi, CEO of Another Idea, added, “When we heard of this need, the team headed by Director of this film Hiten Bhatia and Producer Shuja Rahman were very excited. We are glad that we are playing a part in helping a good cause.”

As part of the next leg of the campaign, ardent supporter of WSD, indie parent and comedian Cyrus Broacha will amplify the film further on social media. On 12th August, ahead of Independence Day, Broacha will declare himself as a #ProudIndiean and appeal to fellow indie adopters to do the same.

Digital agency Concept One is supporting social amplification of the campaign.
