Jade by Monica and Karishma (established 2008) has redefined the codes of Indian couture. Marrying Indian heritage with global trends and reconciling local artisanal techniques with new age silhouettes, the coveted label has upheld the idea of accessible and approachable couture. An evening to celebrate the atelier's timeless savoir-faire was produced by the event partners Seventy Event Media Group (70 EMG) at Mumbai’s legendary Taj Mahal Palace on October 23, 2018.

At the event produced by 70 EMG, Monica and Karishma presented a couture collection titled ‘Oneness’ which transcends geographical boundaries and myriad aesthetics, while staying true to their couture oeuvre of practical dressing and underscoring the concept of lightweight, tactile clothing while uncompromising on intricacy and craftsmanship. Jade, in its 10th year, reinforces the concept of ‘Everyday’ couture - which juxtaposes contemporary style with timelessness, pragmatism with panache and comfort with utilitarian chic.

This lavish showcase was enhanced with an exemplary display of rare, archival pieces of handcrafted masterpieces. These were vintage pieces collected over many years, handpicked by Monica and Karishma, that paid tribute to the Indian artisans and their craft, that has always found a place in JADE’s signature creations.

“On this momentous milestone, we wanted to explore the concept of 'Oneness' - the metaphor for connecting energies. At the same time, we aimed to initiate a dialogue that couture isn't merely about occasional pieces that weigh you down. Couture to us is a metaphor for an art-form, which doesn't restrict movement, but enhances the silhouette and personality of the wearer thus empowering her," says designer Monica Shah.

As Monica and Karishma presented an evening that was about conversations around handcrafted artisanal traditions, they offer a statement in sensuous yet elegant fashion, echoing the sentiment of today's woman, who is a well-travelled stylist, aware of the global trends, proud of her traditions and likes to mix and match without skipping a beat. Closing the show for Oneness by JADE was Jacqueline Fernandes.
