Kolkata’s leading Event Management Institute, NAME (National Academy of Media and Events) organised the grand finale of Pehchaan- A journey to discover talents unknown on July 7. The talent show for under-privileged kids revolved around four different categories: Singing, Dancing, Acting/Drama, Art and Craft.
Pehchaan, the journey to discover the talents Unknown, is a talent show for lesser privileged children in Kolkata. This initiative started in April to discover talents at a grass-root level from different slums, localities, NGOs, shelter homes, etc. of Kolkata and showcase them to society through a stage event in front of the city of joy. Kolkata witnessed the dance performances, with classical, hip-hop, contemporary, Bollywood, and group dance acts that paid tribute to the victims of the Ganesh Talkies Flyover mishap.
After 4 months of on ground work executed by 50 students of NAME Academy, the organisation got 1056 registrations, and from these, 135 amazing talents were shortlisted as the finalists who performed at the main stage event. There was also an art and craft exhibition put up at venue where the creations of these talents were showcased.
For this initiative, NAME tied up with prestigious academy trainers and experts to train these kids for over a month. The event culminated by giving away awards, recognition & gifts to all children for their participation, in the presence a 700+ audience and eminent personalities from the entertainment industry.
On the initiative, Amaresh Kumar Singh, Co-founder, NAME said, “I am proud that our event-management students have organised such an event that has added value to the society. NAME will organise Pehchaan every year, gifting this unique platform to more hidden talents of our society. NAME will continue to guide its students towards taking such initiative in future as well.”
Sneha Maloo, Brand Head, NAME added, “Every individual comes from a certain background, but their Identity, is ever- evolving. A person’s real Pehchaan lies in the talent that the person possesses and what they are capable of. Through our platform we wanted these children to showcase their talent. We are thankful to Kolkata who came in big numbers to watch the show. Now onward these children will be remembered for their singing/ dancing/ creativity and not their background. And that fulfils the objective of our program Pehchaan.”
The program was very successful and touched the hearts of the audience. Many people came forward to offer support to these children. One among them was a businessman, who was enthralled by the finale dance act and decided that his NGO, Chaukhat- A Doorway to a Better Future, will sponsor one year training for two children. Even the Pehchaan training partners, Sangvi Dance Academy and Academy for Musical Excellence have offered free training to these talented children.
