Usha International Supports Ultimate Frisbee with ‘Usha Mumbai Ultimate Open 2017’

Usha International, one of India’s leading consumer durables company, has recently become the first company to promote Ultimate Frisbee in India. Taking forward this strong commitment, the brand announced the ‘Usha Mumbai Ultimate Open 2017’ in association with UPAI (Ultimate Players Association of India). The entire tournament was executed on-ground by Usha International's internal team.
Team Spinergy from Auroville emerged victorious and lifted the Usha Mumbai Ultimate Open 2017 Trophy by beating Team Airborne from Chennai in the 1st Division finals. Team Silent Voice from Chennai won the 2nd Division finals. Team Airbenders from Bangalore won the Spirit of the Game award.
Also known as Gheun Tak, Usha Mumbai Ultimate Open was a three-day tournament slated between March 11 & 13, 2017 and the matches were played at Mahalakshmi Sports Ground, Priyadarshini Park and St. Xavier’s Grounds in South Mumbai. A total of 28 teams with approximately 400 players participated in the tournament.
Speaking about the event, Komal Mehra, Events Head, USHA International said, “Usha’s collaboration with Mumbai Ultimate Open is a part of the company’s aim of promoting sporting talent and spreading active lifestyle. Along with the overall promotion of the game, Usha is also supporting outreach programmes in the slums of Dharavi, and Kunchikurve, Santacruz East to train young talent and promote Ultimate Frisbee at the grassroots level.”
Ultimate Frisbee is perhaps the only sport in which men and women can play together on the same team and is self-refereed by players thus promoting the spirit of the game, efficient communication, coordination, alignment and team building among the players. It is high intensity, and exciting sport that enhances stamina, agility and is super fun- all the things for healthy and active lifestyle.
