The Good Wife, Mumbai and United Spirits have been co-hosting a unique offering, Malt ‘N’ Jazz evenings, offering guests the perfect way to appreciate the finer things in life – exquisite malts, appetizing food and soulful jazz music. Every Thursday since August 18, and continuing until September 8, guests are taken on a journey through different malt trails with uniquely themed evenings: Land & Dram; Butts, Barrels & Puncheons; Whisky’s Travel Book; and Barrel Blends, paired with carefully chosen appetizers.
Ryan and Keenan Tham (Partners, Pebble Street Hospitality: ‘The Good Wife’, Trilogy & KOKO) in association with United Spirits aim to reach 20 to 25 people per session for the Malt ‘N’ Jazz series which is running for 4 weeks.
The Good Wife stands for Good Vibes, Good Food, Good Drinks and the event that the Good Wife looks to deliver will reinforce these brand values. The Good Wife recently hosted its own Truffle Festival where the Chef’s dedicated team created a truffle menu, while Dimi Lezinska, Director of Beverages, The Good Wife created a Truffle Cocktail to work with the food.
On conceptualising the Malt ‘N’ Jazz evenings, Lezinska remarked, “The Good Wife is situated in a market where the majority of people are very loyal to their whiskies, one of the reasons is the cost of these, so people shy away from wanting to try new whiskies unless they will be sure that they will like them. The reason behind starting Malt 'N' Jazz was to engage with The Good Wife customers by curating an opportunity to discover new whiskies paired with the Good Wife's food. Additionally music plays a very important role to create the perfect atmosphere so that people could appreciate the whiskies and the food in a very comfortable environment, and the best music for this is soulful jazz as the Malt ‘N’ Jazz run on Thursdays.”
For the guests to understand and build their relationship with the whiskies offered, it was critical to have the support of the Diageo Reserve Brand Ambassador Nicholas Ord who is responsible for market value and brand awareness of the Luxury portfolio and organising events and training platforms that can inspire and educate beverage professionals and connoisseurs in India.
Ord remarked, “The Malt ‘N’ Jazz Evenings with ‘The Good Wife’ are a fantastic way for us to bring our magnificent collection of Whiskies to our patrons on a uniquely interpersonal level. I am excited about introducing people to the complexities of Malt and Blended Whisky via food pairing and professional tasting. If you love Whisky then The Good Wife is the place to be!”
The first evening on August 18, ‘Land & Dram’, was an exploration of the regions of Scotland and the significance of the local terroir in the flavours of single Malts - Glenkinchie, Singleton, Talisker, and Clynelish. At the second evening on August 25, ‘Butts, Barrels and Puncheons’, Nicholas Ord and Varun Sudhakar, USL Diageo Reserve Brand Ambassadors, walked the venue’s patrons through the role of ageing and maturation and its contribution to the taste and character of Scotch Whisky (Singleton, Dalwhinnie, Oban, Lagavulin). The third evening on September 1, ‘Whisky’s Travel Book’ explored the distiller's art spread across Scotland over five hundred years: Oban, Cragganmore, Caol lla, Dalwhinnie. The last evening, ‘Barrel Blends’ will take place on September 8, and will be about the art of blending with Johnnie Walker and the impact of this new technology from 19th century Whisky to the present day.
