Commemorating William Shakespeare's 400th death anniversary, the famous ‘Shakespeare Lives on Film’ tour recently came calling to India for a 4-day program featuring its global ambassador and an award-winning actor, Sir Ian Mckellen.
Fountainhead MKTG, partnered with Mumbai Academy of Moving Image (MAMI) Film Club, the British Council, the British Film Institute, Great Britain, NCPA and BookMyShow for bringing this global programme to India. The managed and executed the event on May 23-24, 2016.
The event started on May 23 with the launch of MAMI Film Club At NCPA that witnessed the two cinematic legends, Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan and the veteran British actor Ian Mckellen, in a conversation about Shakespeare’s world-wide influence on education, society and culture.
McKellen, who is known for his roles in 'The Lord Of The Rings' trilogy (as Gandalf) and 'The X-Men' film series (as Magneto), discussed the work of literary legend Shakespeare and his own commitment to LGBT rights. Termed as the Masterclass, the two megastars also shared their own cinematic journeys in front of the houseful audience. Having appeared in numerous Shakespearean plays staged across the globe, McKellenalso performed a soliloquy from a play on Thomas More, said to be written by Shakespeare.
Attended by the who’s who of the Indian film & business fraternity, the star-studded event saw the likes of Kangana Ranaut, Sonam Kapoor, Imran Khan, Kiran Rao, Kabir Khan, Mini Mathur, Rajkumar Rao, Vidhu Vinod Chopra and many more amongst the other 150 well-known faces.
On May 24, an exclusive screening of Richard III was presented by Sir Ian McKellen, who has played the title role in the movie. This was followed by a Q&A session with the audience.
