The Mad Decent Block Party made a power-packed Indian debut over the weekend, with successful gigs in Mumbai on Feb 19, and Bangalore on Feb 21. The Delhi-NCR Event scheduled to be held at Dhanchiri Camp, NH8, Gurgaon was cancelled due to last minute curfews in several parts of Haryana resulting from the ongoing Jat protests in the state and NCR.

The American record label, Mad Decent, helmed by Grammy-nominated & AMA winning producer Diplo brought the Mad Decent Block Party (MDBP) to India in association with Percept Live’s Sunburn Arena, and Oji.

The Mumbai and Bangalore pitstops of MDBP’s debut India tour saw party and dance music fans make the best of the weekend with a gamut of soundtracks from track to tropical house. Diplo’s label Mad Decent upped the mood with sounds from Saving My Life, Teach Me How To Dougie, Light It Up, Ready For Your Love, Faded amongst others. The group pushed their fascination with global dance music to the fullest while honoring their newfound pop tracks such as "Lean On," while jumping off of banisters and surfing the crowd in a giant human hamster ball. EDM fans from across India put on their dancing shoes for the 6-hour Diplo dance party amidst the kaleidoscopic ambiance.

Others mixing up some tunes and pumping up the beats at the party were: Big Gigantic with tropical house and a live warbling saxophone; American producer Giraffage sampled familiar hip-hop choruses including multiple Drake, Sean Paul remixes; and British house-music duo Gorgon City showcased their nu disco dupstep soundscape. Diplo led the end-of-the-summer blowout to an explosive smash with his trio Major Lazer, featuring Jillionaire and Walshy Fire.

Whitsels and Bandanas were thrown out to the audience, while a quartet of female dancers flanking the stage performed seamlessly-choreographed dance routines. Confetti cannons, water guns, flags, exotic dancers twerking and Diplo’s crowd zorbing brought an element of showmanship usually lost in live EDM. The artists and fans took to social media afterwards to extol the weekend's festivities, making the inaugural edition of MDBP a memorable experience for all involved.

Karan Singh, CEO, Sunburn says, "This is our 10th anniversary year which is a matter of celebration in itself as an intellectual property. This season we intend to deliver differentiated products for our loyal dance music patrons.  Sunburn would have never been what it is today without the loyal patrons. This association with Mad Decent Block Party is the first step towards our mega celebrations."

The Delhi gig encountered an unprecedented roadblock with the ongoing Jat protests and related violence in Delhi-NCR. Last minute curfews in various parts of Haryana resulted in an official warning from the police department, forcing the organisers to cancel the show on Feb 20 to put safety first.

An official statement from Sunburn CEO Karan Singh states; "We deeply regret the cancellation of the Mad Decent Block Party at Dhanchiri Camp due to last minute curfews being imposed in various parts of Haryana. The safety and security of our fans, artistes and crew are of utmost importance to us, and in light of an official warning from the police department, the show was cancelled. We are working to reschedule the show to a later date. All existing tickets will be valid for that show. In case of no rescheduling, all ticket holders will receive a refund."

The dance music event held over the weekend saw an enthusiastic response from fans in both cities. The cancelled Delhi Gig may be rescheduled or cancelled.
