Sound Shaft recently managed the lighting, sound, trussing and LED display at the Atif Aslam concert that took place on July 31 at the Talkatora Indoor Stadium, Delhi. The concert was a ticketed event organised by Le Gala Events (A unit of Essence Communication Pvt. Ltd.) and saw an audience of 4000 people.
The venue itself is dome-shaped and an acoustic nightmare. Further, the organiser had sold seats on the sides of the venue as well, further limiting what the sound team had to work with. The sound system used was D&B V series with Amplifiers and Sub Basses. Out of 360 degrees minus the stage area, Sound Shaft had 270 degrees of venue to be covered without setting up trussing structures that could obstruct the view of the stage. Since the organiser had given the team a free hand as far as technical requirements were concerned, the show was well planned technically.
On the main fill there were 6 a side rig with 3 a side for the side seating at the venue. Upfront there was a bass array with 4 v subs and 6 B2 bass, all powered by D&B D80 Amps. The main issue the team faced here was the slapback from the venue itself. To avoid this an Array Cal from D&B was used, while the team planned certain variations with the Tuning of the system. And given venue considerations, they did not fly the system too high.
On stage, a Marshall JCM900 was set up as main guitar amps, Ampeg SVT as Bass and KC550 for Keyboards. D&B Max15 monitors were used all with D6/D12 Amps. The details of the sound equipment used is as follows:
D&B V series V8: 14 Nos.
D&B V series V12: 6 Nos.
V SUB: 4 Nos.
B2 Sub: 6 Nos.
Max Monitors: 12 Nos.
D80 Amp: 3 Nos.
D6: 3 Nos.
D12: 3 Nos.
Yahama Digital Console: 1
Marshall JCM900 - 2 sets
Ampeg SVT 4Pro - 1 set
KC550 - 1
In comparison to managing the sound, lighting was relatively easy for the team, who used their Motorised Trussing Structure to mount the system on. Efficient use of space was made by using the same structure for the sound system rigging as well. Lighting equipment used was a Martin MH3 Fixture with Martin Matrix Blinders, along with conventional profiles, Pars, LED Pars and Follow Spots.
The LED display system was also provided by Sound Shaft. This comprised a Pitch 4.8mm Black LED wall at the centre with a side screen, while Extron Switching was used for the event.
On the response to their work and the team’s experience given the challenges, Bharat Bajaj, Director, Sound Shaft said, “The client seemed pretty happy with the work and service provided, and said the show was flawless in all technical respects. It’s a very proud moment for me and the team to achieve this. Taking on all the technicals of an event puts a different kind of pressure on me as their forefront man. I am glad that everything went well and there were no glitches on the set up or the event.”
The team was responsible for lighting, sound, trussing and LED display at the event which took place on July 31 at the Talkatora Stadium, Delhi.
