Arunachal Pradesh Adventure @ Mechukha - 3rd National Adventure Racing Championship 2025

The valley of Mechukha in Arunachal Pradesh came alive as the state hosted Adventure @ Mechukha – the 3rd National Adventure Racing Championship 2025. Held between April 17-20, the event positioned itself as India’s first border adventure race, drawing national and international attention to the region's rugged beauty and adventurous spirit.

Organised by NthAdventure in association with Arunachal Pradesh Tourism, the championship is part of the prestigious Adventure Racing World Series (ARWS) – Asia Series, and serves as a qualifier for the ARWS Asia Championship 2025 to be held in Malaysia later this year.

Pasang Dorjee Sona, Minister for Tourism, Government of Arunachal Pradesh said, “Arunachal Pradesh is well positioned to emerge as a leading adventure tourism destination in the world. We want to showcase the potential in adventure tourism vested in our state through events like National Adventure Racing Championship. We plan to organise this event in a much bigger way next year.”

The event attracted teams from 12 Indian states and participants from Malaysia, Nepal, and South Africa, all converging to test their mettle in the extreme terrains of Mechukha. The journey began with a warm reception at Dibrugarh Airport, followed by immersive cultural experiences through homestays in Aalo and Basar.

Over the course of the event, teams traversed a grueling 150 km race route, navigating villages, rivers, valleys, and mountains near the India-Tibet border, close to the McMahon Line. The race tested endurance and skill in disciplines like trail running, hiking, kayaking, river crossing, mountain biking, rope work, and navigation.

While full-course racers competed for a coveted spot in the upcoming Asian Championship, short-course participants got a taste of adventure amidst the scenic wilderness of Arunachal.

This milestone event not only spotlighted Arunachal Pradesh’s capacity to host world-class adventure sports but also reflected its booming tourism sector. In 2023 alone, the state recorded a 300% rise in foreign tourists and a 368.91% surge in domestic visitors, reaching 1.04 million—a powerful indicator of its growing appeal.

By hosting Adventure @ Mechukha, Arunachal Pradesh has once again demonstrated its unique blend of natural splendor, cultural richness, and adventurous allure—firmly placing itself on the global adventure tourism map.

Held between April 17-20, the event positioned itself as India’s first border adventure race, drawing national and international attention to the region's rugged beauty and adventurous spirit.
