The 19th edition of the Tata Mumbai Marathon unfolded on January 21, 2024, with an impressive turnout of nearly 59,000 runners hitting the streets of Mumbai. Starting from the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, the marathon showcased the city's vibrant spirit and welcomed a global assembly of participants.
Diverse in categories, the runners comprised 10,711 in the Marathon, 15,218 in the Half Marathon, 7,130 in the Open 10K, 20,590 in the Dream Run, 1,782 in the Senior Citizens Run, and 1,114 in the Champions with Disability category.
The event was flagged off by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, along with Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis, setting the tone for a day filled with determination and community support. Procam International, the promoter, left no stone unturned in ensuring a seamless experience for participants, with a focus on health and safety.
Medical partner Asian Heart Institute played a crucial role, deploying 500 personnel, including doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, and support staff across various stations and camps. Dr. Vijay D'Silva expressed confidence in handling any medical situations, emphasizing the gradual decrease in the need for medical help over the years, thanks to informed and well-trained runners.
Run clubs, numbering 19, and 400+ runner volunteers added to the vibrancy, managing hydration and energy stations along the route. The marathon's commitment to sustainability was evident through waste management initiatives, encouraging carpooling, and repurposing branding materials.
The marathon, recognized by World Athletics as a Gold Label race, received special trains from Western Railway and a shuttle service, ensuring smooth logistics for participants. Mumbai Police deployed over 600 officers and 100+ traffic police to ensure a secure environment.
The event, broadcasted live on Sony Sports, not only celebrated fitness but also showcased Mumbai's commitment to health, sustainability, and community support. The Tata Mumbai Marathon 2024 left a lasting impression, inspiring a Fit India movement that resonated on the streets of Mumbai and beyond.
