Kashish Mumbai International Queer Film Festival (India), an annual cinema event with an LGBTQ+ theme, is set to host its 12th edition from 19 August to 5 September 2021. This virtual edition will screen 221 LGBTQ+ films from 53 countries over three weekends.

The festival was originally scheduled to take place online from 20 May 20 to 6 June 2021, but was rescheduled due to the current pandemic.

This year’s festival will highlight LGBTQ+ films from Asia – with 39 films from India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Myanmar, Iran, Lebanon, Turkey and Indonesia.

The Kashish QDrishti Film Grant 2021, in its sixth year, put out an open call for submission of screenplays by filmmakers who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, asexual, queer, or non-binary, and will be offering a grant of Rs.2,00,000 to make one narrative short film at the festival. Registrations ended on 18 July 2021.

The festival jury includes writer-director Ritesh Batra, film director Gauri Shinde, cinematographer  Satya Rai Nagpaul; festival directors Cary Rajinder Sawhney and Selvaggia Velo, editor Bina Paul; filmmaker Nandan Saxena; producer and distributor Gargi Sen, academician Anjali Monteiro, filmmaker Ketki Pandit and actor Viveck Vaswani.

Festival Director Sridhar Rangayan said, “We are super pleased to have such eminent and accomplished personalities on the Kashish 2021 jury panels, who bring in their very own rich and diverse experiences in the jurying process. Our team is mighty thankful to them for their amazing support and cooperation in the jurying process. May the best film win, but let us celebrate the uniqueness of each and every film that is in competition, but also all the films screening at the 12-day film festival. Each one of them makes us reflect on our own privileges and shortcomings and offers a mega blockbuster of entertainment.”

Schedule and registration details are at the festival website here.

Virtual edition will screen 221 LGBTQ+ themed films from 53 countries over three weekends, including 39 from India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Myanmar, Iran, Lebanon, Turkey and Indonesia.
