Actor and fitness enthusiast Milind Soman will embark on a solo ‘The Unity Run’ to commemorate India's 75th year of independence on 15 August 2021 in Mumbai. Running 420 kilometres in eight days, he will reach The Statue of Unity at Sardar Sarovar Dam, Kevadia, Gujarat, on 22 August.

Joining him on the run are title sponsor Union Bank of India and ‘powered by’ sponsor Apis Himalaya Honey, while partners include Fitbit India (fitness), So Good (beverage), Carrera (sun protection), Evergreen Club App (wellness), Fujifilm (imaging) and Figaro Olive Oil (cooking oil).

An official statement on The Unity Run informed that Soman will stop at schools, hospitals and villages along the way to spread the message of unity, peace, harmony, and fitness, and has also organised a number of plantation drives.

The run will be documented on film and social media, with the runner paying tribute to Sardar Patel at the Statue of Unity at the end. Organisers expect hundreds to join him along the way.

Soman said, “I believe that a unified nation is a progressive nation. A country that stays together, prospers and grows together. Every individual has a responsibility to contribute towards the unity and oneness of the country and a responsibility to keep themselves and their families healthy. For me, running helps in maintaining peace and harmony not only with self but also balances my existence with the external environment. I want to encourage everyone to take charge of their life and lead it with utmost consciousness of body and mind. It is not necessary for everyone to run 400km in a week, but at least 5 percent of that should be a possibility if made a priority. This is how we will make India, a united, harmonious and a fit country, exactly how we aspire it to be. I thank all the partners for coming forward to support this novel initiative. Jai Hind!”

Union Bank of India (title) and Apis Himalaya Honey (powered by) are sponsors, while partners include Fitbit India, So Good, Carrera, Evergreen Club App, Fujifilm and Figaro Olive Oil.
