Meghalaya Tourism to Re-open its Tourist Destinations from December 21, With Strict Safety Protocols

With an aim to resume the flow of Tourism activities in the #HomeOfClouds State, the Meghalaya Government has announced the opening up of tourist places – closed since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic - for all visitors from December 21, 2020.
The Tourism Department, Government of Meghalaya has issued a new set of SOPs stating that tourists visiting the State would have to download the Meghalaya Tourism app for registration and receive an e-invite before they can travel.

As per the SOPs, the e-invite will be generated only if the tourist can show bookings for two nights’ stay. If the tourist is staying as a guest of any family or friend in Meghalaya, then he or she should declare the full address and contact details of the family or friend and the complete itinerary.
In an order issued by the Tourism Department of the Meghalaya Government, tourists have also been asked to produce an original copy of the COVID-19 negative report tested within 72 hours of their arrival at all the State’s entry points.
Announcing the State Government’s decision, Conrad Sangma, Chief Minister of Meghalaya, tweeted, “We are re-opening tourism in Meghalaya for tourists from outside the State from 21st December, 2020. To ensure the safety of everyone, registration through the @meghtourism app is made mandatory and SOPs are put in place. The Home Of Clouds looks forward to welcoming you."
One of the popular tourist destinations of North-east India, the tourist places of Meghalaya were opened for local tourists since October 16 by strictly following COVID-19 safety protocols.
Tourists visiting the State will have to download the Meghalaya Tourism app for registration and receive an e-invite before they can travel.
