In April this year, the non-profit organisation Teamwork Fine Arts Society had launched #ArtMatters, an initiative to raise awareness about the new reality faced by various artistes across India and establish support networks for them. #ArtMatters is now organising a fund-raising gala, ‘I Believe #ArtMatters’, to be broadcast on October 4, 2020 on Teamwork Arts’ Facebook Page and on BookMyShow.
The virtual event will feature over 450+ artistes and performers, including contemporary and classical musicians, dancers, comedians, visual artistes and theatre practitioners. The aim behind ‘I Believe #ArtMatters’ is to provide support to artistes and artisans across the country and celebrate their craft by highlighting their stories.

Sanjoy K. Roy, Managing Director of Teamwork Arts said, “Artistes and artisans across India have been impacted directly by COVID-19, which has led to a loss of work and income. #ArtMatters grew out of a need to focus attention on the plight of this vast sector which spans the Ragis in the Gurdwaras and the Bauls of Bengal to the Kathak and Bharatnatyam dancers, to those who weave magnificent temple and Banarasisaris, to the toy-makers and theatre actors, stage designers, stage hands and more. ‘I Believe #ArtMatters’ creates a platform for the arts to resonate and enrich our lives and raise much-needed resources to support the artistes, artisans and their families.”
‘I Believe #ArtMatters’ will showcase performances by Indian classical artistes including Shubhendra Rao, Saskia Rao-de-Haas, B. C. Manjunath and Vidya Shah, to name a few. The gala will include percussionist VikkuVinayakram and violin virtuoso L. Subramaniam, with playback singer Kavita Krishnamurthi.
The event includes music composers A. R. Rahman, Salim-Sulaiman, ShekharRavjiani, Amit Trivedi, ShantanuMoitra and Praveen D Rao. Kailash Kher, GurdaasMaan, UshaUthup, Raghu Dixit Project, Indian Ocean, Harshdeep Kaur, Shilpa Rao, Kabir Café, Advaita, Shillong Chamber Choir and SoumikDatta are also part of the line-up.
The virtual gala will feature folk singers like ShabnamVirmani, BipulChettri, Chugge Khan, Kutle Khan, Bhai Baldeep Singh, AabhaHanjura, Harpreet and many more. The evening will also have a collaborative performance by Sivamani and V. Selvaganesh.
