Polish vocalist and composer Anna Maria Jopek, who has performed alongside iconic musicians like such as Sting, guitar virtuoso Pat Metheny, Senegalese legend Youssou N’dou, multiple Grammy Award winner Bobby McFerrin, jazz bassist Richard Bona and bossa nova icon Oscar Castro-Neves among others, just completed a series of shows in India.
In addition to performing at the experiential music festival Holi Moo!, AMJ also played a special sit-down concert in Delhi on March 10, and travelled to Mumbai on March 11 for a workshop and performance at the True School of Music. This tour was organized by Trifecta Pvt Ltd in association with the Embassy of Poland.
A vocalist, composer, visionary and a proud Pole, Anna Maria Jopek is a trained classical pianist and a jazz musician who is adept making any song her own. Hugely inspired by Polish musical traditions, she effortlessly merges feisty folk rhythms with jazz and classical music. She has played at some of the world’s most prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall, Hollywood Bowl, and Royal Festival Hall, among others since she started performing in 2000, and has sold more than a million albums.
She travelled to India just weeks after releasing a new album, Minione – a collaboration with Grammy Award-winning Afro-Cuban jazz pianist and composer, Gonzalo Rubalcaba – with her band that includes AMJ on vocals and electronic keyboard, Krzysztof Herdzin (piano, accordion, flutes, calimba, vocals), Robert Kubiszyn (bass, wave drum, backing vocals, live looping), Paweł Dobrowolski on drums and Piotr Nazaruk on flutes and traditional Polish folk instruments.
“Music is the speech of soul. I feel honoured to be able to travel and sing in so many places around the world. However, I have never had a chance to sing in India before. Among many amazing things that happened to me in the last few months (one of which was my dream of singing with Sting coming true) I consider the opportunity of performing in New Delhi and Mumbai a miracle. Thank you for inviting me,” said Anna Maria in a statement.
