Kalyan Jewelers Commits 20 Crore to Build 2K Homes with Habitat for Humanity India

Leading Jewellery brand Kalyan Jewellers has signed an agreement with Habitat for Humanity India to help build 2000 homes for low-income, marginalised families in Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana. Kalyan has committed INR 20 Crore towards this initiative as part of its endeavours to support the communities in which it operates its business.
The initiative in alignment with Government of India’s ‘Housing for All’ and ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ schemes, will see Kalyan and Habitat build 750 homes in the first phase and 1250 in the second.
Speaking about the development, T.S.Kalyanaraman — Chairman and Managing Director of Kalyan Jewellers said, ‘’We aim to complete the 2,000 homes over the next 2 years. This is a beginning and we are committed to scaling up our efforts to build collective capacity in areas like housing and sanitation that will complement the government’s development initiatives. We are delighted to work with Habitat for Humanity given their extensive experience in undertaking large-scale housing programmes across the country and globally. We look forward to impact lives positively and in a sustainable manner.’’

Speaking on the occasion, Rajan Samuel — Managing Director, Habitat for Humanity India said, “Forging a partnership with Kalyan Jewellers is a historic step for Habitat for Humanity India as it paves way for us to provide permanent housing solution to those living in poverty housing. With a multi-year funding from Kalyan, the program will impact 10,000 individuals in the next 2 years. We are hopeful that under our ‘Impact 50-50’ approach, we will encourage other corporates to invest in livelihood, health and education; thereby ensuring the sustainable impact of our shelter program. ‘Impact 50-50’ is aligned with the ‘Impact Asia’ initiative of Habitat for Humanity formed to address the huge housing challenge in the Asia-Pacific region where almost 800 million people live in substandard housing.’’
Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit organization that aims to eliminate poverty by providing shelter to poor families. Kalyan Jewellers is the first Indian corporate to support Habitat for Humanity India’s new initiative ‘Impact 50-50’, which aims to work in 100 districts across India for providing improved shelter and sanitation for the people at the bottom of society’s pyramid.
The initiative in alignment with Indian Government's ‘Housing for All’ scheme will benefit over 10K individuals from low-income communities where Kalyan operates its business.
