Teamwork Arts

The Jazz Utsav is an annual fest held in Delhi, featuring some of the best Jazz artists from India and across the globe. The 31st edition of the music fest will be held on Dec 5 - 6, 2015 at One Golden Mile, R K Puram. Organised by Capital Jazz in association with Teamwork Arts, the 2 day event celebrates the past, present and future of Jazz and will feature musicians from the USA, Sweden, Poland and India.

Through events like the Jazz Utsav, Capital Jazz has been a pioneer in bringing Indian and international jazz artists together and are largely credited for the growing appreciation for this music genre India. Teamworks Arts, on the other hand, pioneered ‘Friends of Music’ and the ‘Jaipur Literature Festival.’ The two companies have now entered into a partnership to present Jazz Utsav in Delhi as well as explore the possibilities of touring the fest to other Indian cities.

Speaking about the partnership, Sanjoy Roy, Managing Director of Teamwork Arts said, “Teamwork Arts aims to create exponential value for the arts by bringing to the forefront a multitude of art forms through our events and festivals.  In Capital Jazz we’ve found partners who are just as passionate and enthused with these ideas and have kept alive the love for this exciting musical genre. With the best of musicians from India and across the world, this year’s Jazz Utsav will be an unparalleled celebration of all things Jazz and over the next few years we hope to grow this festival into one of Asia’s major music events”

In the past editions, the Jazz fest has brought big names like Sonny Rollins, Larry Carlton and Wayne Krantz to the centrestage. This year’s lineup is a representation of the past, present and future of Jazz. The electrifying future of jazz music is safe in the hands of the Woodstock Jazz Band (Students of Mussoorie’s Woodstock School) and Joel Lyssarides from Sweden, while the past is being presented by its legendary flag bearers like Derek Julien (One of the first to introduce Jazz to India, back in the 60s), and Karim Ellaboudi featuring Vasundhara. Present day jazz is being represented by Arthur Dutkiewicz Trio from Poland and Rudresh Mahanthappa’s Gamak from the USA.

Commenting on Jazz Utsav 2015, Capital Jazz member Astri Ghosh said, “This year's festival is special. We have the best of Indian jazz with the amazing guitar of Derek Julien (remember Waterfront?). Women are well represented. If you haven't heard Kittu Sequeira or Vasundhara Vidalur, it's time you did at Jazz this year. And if you wonder what the future holds for Indian jazz, see the talented young girls and boys in the Woodstock jazz.”
