TransStadia brings stadium in box to India with T-Box

When it comes to concerts, sports tournaments, stage shows and other similar events involving large spectators, the one thing that is of the utmost importance is the location of the event. Most of these events are conducted in large stadiums and open grounds with massive seating capacity. What if you could conduct a concert or show in a much smaller space with adequate seating capacity and take home the stadium after the show is over?

That is the concept of the stadium in a box, or the T-Box technology. The T-Box is a portable grandstand and seating arena that is an alternative to conventional brick and mortar stadia and scaffolding systems. SE TransStadia Pvt. Ltd. is responsible for the production, marketing and large scale use of the T-Box system in India. Established as a part of the Setco Group in October 2008, the company is an integrated sports company with interests in sports infrastructure, technology development and manufacturing. T-Box is based on a globally patented technology developed by Mobile Tribunen AG Switzerland.

Martin Altbart, Managing Director, Mobile Tribunen, has been targeting the BRIC countries as the most promising markets and partnered Udith Sheth, Managing Director and CEO, SE TransStadia for the production of the T-Box system. The elements of the T-Box system can be added up to provide seating capacities from 50 to 15,000 and more. Transportation of the T-Box system can be done through standard containers that are compact and also serve as integral parts of the grandstand. Compared to scaffolding and tubular steel structures or brick and mortar stadiums, set-up time for the T-Box system is very short, with low maintenance, making the technology cost effective. In addition, T-Box is environment friendly and does not require building permissions.

The T-Box technology is one key element for SE TransStadia's projects in terms of smart technologies. The company has licensed the technology for India, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Sri Lanka as the solution for creation of stadium infrastructure. In Gujarat, SE TransStadia is developing international sports infrastructure facilities in seven major cities across the state, on government-owned land and on a public-private partnership basis. The facility in Ahmedabad, currently under construction, includes a 20,000-seat football stadium, with a clinic, a hotel and conference rooms. To make most out of the space, SE TransStadia will use patented stadium technology, StadiArena from the UK and T-Box from Switzerland, the first being a convertible technology and the later for modular arena seating.

Further commenting on the use of the technology in India and abroad, Udit Sheth, Managing Director and CEO, SE TransStadia said: "In India, we have used the technology at Inorbit Mall in Malad, Mumbai, for the World Series of Boxing matches. This is the first time the World Series of Boxing has taken an international match into a mall. We provided a seating capacity of 1,040 for the matches in Mumbai. Testimony to this claim is the Moruleng Stadium in Rustenburg in South Africa. In June 2010, England played their final warm-up game against local Absa Premiership club, Platinum Stars, there and was full of praise for the 20,000-seater stadium, which was built in just over six months ahead of the FIFA Confederations Cup in 2009. Here the tribunes are not temporary but permanent, with concrete elements and a roof covering the grandstand."

Sheth further added: "The TransStadia team is marketing the product and the promotions are done by hosting such events. Our team has strategized a plan through media, advertisements and social network. After the match in Mumbai we have got several inquiries from different states, event companies and universities."
