Scheduled to be held from October 3 to December 8, organisers expect around 5,000 golfers from more than 29 golf clubs across 22 cities in the country. Melroy D'Souza, COO, PMG said, "We have seen the property grow from a handful of clubs during its inception to its present level of engaging more than 5,000 people from across the country. Last year, the response was phenomenal and the best part of the tournament was when the championship was won by a Lucknow-based club."
This time, emphasis is being made on giving more prominence to regional centres, with the zonal finals scheduled in locations like Pune, Lucknow and Bhubaneshwar, steering away from the bigger cities. Fashion Nights, which were introduced last year, continue to make its presence felt at these centres with the evening winding up with a party in each city.
Announcing this property, Debashish Shyam, Divisional Vice President, Marketing, United Spirits Limited said, "McDowell Signature is a key driver of USL's premium footprint in India. Selling more than a million cases per annum, this coveted brand is galloping ahead of its competitors and taking bold strides to increase its share of the market. McDowell Signature Club Golf in the ‘High Stakes' avatar presents an ultimate combination of bold moves and intense golfing action."
"This year, we look forward to strengthening McDowell Signature's association with the bold and the beautiful proposition by upping the style quotient with the suave Abhay Deol, and hosting the only golf tournament in Asia with the Power Play format at the ninth edition of McDowell Signature Club Golf Championship" he added.
The McDowell Signature Club Golf Championships 2010 will be played over 18 holes in a dual format. Nine holes will be played in the Power Play Golf format while the remaining nine holes will be played in the Stableford format. The tournament is played in three stages - The Intra-Club, the Regional Finals and the All-India Finals.
This year, the All-India finals will be played at a locale in Chang Mai, Thailand. PMG has managed to rope in the tourism board of Thailand and Kingfisher Airlines as partners for the event.
