Pune International Film Festival to be held from January 6 - 13

The Pune Film Foundation, in association with the Government of Maharashtra, is organising the ninth edition of the Pune International Film Festival (PIFF) from January 6 - 13 at E-Square, Inox, City Pride - Kothrud, Fame at Fatimanagar, Ganesh Kala Krida Rangmanch and the National Film Archive of India at the Law College road and Paud road.


The festival will screen significant Marathi films as a special tribute to the golden jubilee year of the state while also focusing on films adapted from Rabindranath Tagore's literary works and musical classics like Mughal-E-Azam, as this year marks the 150th birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore.


Jabbar Patel, Director, PIFF said, "We will showcase over 150 films from over 40 countries in both competitive and non-competitive categories. We are expecting over 8000 delegates to attend the event. This year, there will be a special segment dedicated to the film and culture of Japan at the E Square organised by the Japanese Consulate in collaboration with the Indo-Nippon Friendship Association."


Whistling Woods International (WWI) will reprise its role as curator of the student film competition. The association is now in its fourth year. On the association, Subhash Ghai, Chairman, Whistling Woods International said, "We are absolutely ecstatic to take forward the relationship we share with PIFF to achieve yet another milestone. PIFF is an outstanding platform for our young, gifted film-makers to exhibit their work and liaise with industry professionals, which otherwise is difficult."


There will be 35 feature and animation films from Japan screened. There will also be an exhibition on Japanese art and culture. Workshops on Ikebana and Origami, demonstration on Samurai sword fighting and Japanese cuisine will be held.


The festival is co-sponsored by Idea Cellular. Associate sponsors for the event are Pune Municipal Corporation, Air India, Directorate of film festivals, National Egg Co-ordination Committee, Coca-cola India and L'oreal India.


PIFF will be inaugurated on January 6 at Ganesh Kala Krida Rang Manch, Pune at 4.30 p.m and will be attended by members of the International Jury, directors and actors. The Pune International Film Festival is now the official film festival of the Government of Maharashtra. PIFF is also supported by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting-GOI, Govt. of Maharashtra, Pune Municipal Corporation, Directorate of Film Festivals, Air-India, The National Film Archives of India, The Film and Television Institute of India, National Film Development Corporation, Whistling Woods International, Max Mueller Bhavan, Consulate of Japan, Alliance De Francais and the Akhil Bhartiya Marathi Chitrapat Mahamandal.
