Nokia Lumia and NDTV recently launched the 'Your Wish is my App' initiative which is the first ever app reality TV show in India. Calls for entries have begun. The on-ground activations or 'Your Wish is my App' festival will take place at Hotel Oberoi in New Delhi on Jan. 20, having already taken place in Mumbai and Bangalore in December itself. The idea of this initiative is to share a 'killer' app idea and become a millionaire.
The campaign will give consumers a unique and exciting new opportunity to submit mobile application ideas that have the potential to be developed into successful apps for the Windows marketplace and stand a chance to win a grand prize of Rs. 1 million. Each runner up will be presented with Rs. 5 lakhs and Rs. 2 lakhs. Three lucky winners will stand a chance to win the new Nokia Lumia 920.
Commenting on the activations, Gerard Rego, Director - Developer Experience, Nokia India said: "We have received phenomenal response from the consumers and the results have been astounding. We have received over 30,000 suggestions for applications, showcasing the consumer's enthusiasm for such initiatives. We are extremely pleased with this response and are looking forward to selecting apps that can be developed and made available for all our consumers to enjoy. We received some great app ideas for the Mumbai and Bangalore on-ground activations and i'm sure it'll be the same for Delhi too."
Consumers directly got a chance to present their ideas to the attending judges. One lucky winner from Mumbai and Bangalore each got a wild card entry into the final 50 apps to be showcased on the reality show. Another winner from Delhi will be selected as well. The reality show will see consumers with the top 36 submissions fight it out for the grand prize in front of an esteemed panel of judges including Rajiv Makhni, Managing Editor, NDTV; Vishal Gondal, MD, Disney UTV Digital; Raj Chinai, Venture Capitalist & Co-Founder, Harvard Business School Alumni Angels; Vikas Khanna, New York based Michelin starred celebrity chef and Kalki Koechlin, Bollywood actor and youth icon.
Elaborating on the initiative, Rego said: "Mobile applications today have become an intrinsic part of our lives, helping us personalize our mobile devices to our needs and preferences. Over the years Nokia has extensively worked with developers to grow the range of apps we offer to our consumers. The contest is about opening this platform up for greater innovation and inviting suggestions from the consumer itself, promising them our support in developing and taking the benefits of the application to a wider audience of consumers in the Windows marketplace."
Apps will be judged basis consumer votes on social media channels and an esteemed panel of judges. Viewers will be able to vote for their favorite apps on Facebook, or through SMS. There will be a 'people's choice' winner too for the idea that gets the maximum audience votes. The winners will be judged on the basis of parameters such as the originality of the idea, relevance of the app, potential for the revenue and the practicality of the app. The nine-episode reality TV show will be aired on NDTV starting end of January.
Since this contest is aimed at creating applications that are truly for the consumer and by the consumer, it is open for everyone and Nokia had ensured that there is more than one way to participate in the contest. Either they could share their app idea by sending a SMS or making a call. It's also possible through Facebook, www.yourwishismyapp.com and Twitter hashtag #Yourwishismyapp.
