NDTV-Toyota Greenathon returns for the fourth year
Tue 24 April 2012
The NDTV-Toyota Greenathon is back with its fourth edition. Actor and model Milind Soman has begun his Green Run from Delhi to Mumbai, accompanied by the Eco Task Force soldiers of the Territorial Army. Starting from the Qutab Minar in Delhi, the run will cover 1,500 km in a span of 30 days, and will end on May 20 at the Yashraj Studio in Mumbai, where Greenathon 4 will have its gala annual event.

The Green Run was flagged off by Jayanthi Natarajan, Minister for Environment and Forests. Actor Rahul Bose; Kartikeya Sarabhai, Founder-Director, CEE; Colonel Pradeep Sandhir, Commanding Officer, 132 ETF, Rajput Regiment; along with Milind's family, friends and school children on roller skates were also present to support the runners.

The Green Run started as a 24-hour run in Greenathon's first year, which then progressed to a 100 km run in the second year. Soman and team took a huge leap for Greenathon 3, running from Ahmedabad to Mumbai, over 550 kms in 15 days. The fourth edition of the Greenathon will see Soman attempting a 1,500 km run from Delhi to Mumbai, crossing through Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Maharashtra in just 30 days. Through the run, Soman will address key environmental concerns and participate in nature and wildlife related activities along the route, such as tree planting and nature camps, to spread the green message.

Commenting on the NDTV-Toyota Greenathon 4, Vikram Chandra, CEO, NDTV Group said: "We would like to take this opportunity to thank Priyanka and Milind for extending their support to the cause and for being a part of NDTV's initiative. Over the past three years, NDTV-Toyota's Greenathon has garnered substantial support and funds and we hope to make this edition bigger, better and greener!"

‘Greenathon on Wheels', the NDTV Glass Bus will follow Soman during the entire run and act as a pledge wall where people can come and extend their support with signatures on the bus. There will be daily live programming with Soman and reports on the Green Run on the NDTV Network as well as on the web portal green.ndtv.com. Viewers will be able to chat with Soman on the NDTV portal and also post messages for him. Soman will also reach out to many people through radio broadcasts, with a call to come and join him and be a part of the Green Run.

Greenathon 4's brand ambassador Priyanka Chopra launched the fourth edition of the campaign on April 9 on the banks of Yamuna River in Agra. She was joined at the site by Abhishek Mishra, Minister of State for Protocol, UP; NDTV's Group CEO Vikram Chandra; and Soman, among others, for a clean up drive to spread the green message.
