Acknowledging this growth in tourism from India, the Kenya Tourist Board (KTB) organized its third consecutive road show in Mumbai, Bangalore and Kolkata. Jennifer Opondo, Head of Marketing, Kenya Tourist Board (KTB), led the biggest delegation ever to India which included people from the Kenya Tourist Board, Kenya Wildlife Services and private travel trade, who met over 500 Indian travel agents in India. This road show received a good response from the Indian travel trade and was termed a great success. Kenya Airways actively participated in the whole event. R.A Goenka, Hon Consul Republic of Kenya, and Nasser Okoth from the High Commission of Kenya also graced the evening in Mumbai with their presence.
The main tourism inflow to Kenya is from India's western region, followed by the northern region and then the rest of India. KTB anticipates a consistent forecast of a 10 to 15 per cent increase in Indian arrivals in the coming years. There has been a notable shift in tourism traffic from the traditional VFR (Visiting friends and relatives) to an increased number of leisure and business tourist arrivals. The incentive market has continued to grow and KTB forecasts an accelerated growth in this segment. The ICCA has ranked Kenya at the fourth position in Africa, having hosted 19 high profile conferences last year.
KTB is closely liaising with the newly created National MICE secretariat to unveil a marketing campaign to attract international conferences. KTB also participated in SATTE, India's largest B2B travel trade exhibition in New Delhi, for the first time and received an overwhelming response from Indian buyers and other visitors.
