High Street Phoenix gives mall-goers happy feet
Wed 23 November 2011
Still an uncommon concept in India, flash mob is an idea that has gained popularity in the recent past through the Hollywood film ‘Friends With Benefits'. A flash mob is a group of people who assemble suddenly in a public place, perform an unusual and sometimes seemingly pointless act, often for the purposes of entertainment, satire, or artistic expression, for a brief time and then disperse.

Hopping onto this emerging bandwagon in order to promote the latest Hollywood animation release, Happy Feet 2, a flash mob gathered at High Street Phoenix, Mumbai on Nov. 20 and unleashed the awesome twosome, Erik and Mumble, two of the animated characters in the movie, on unsuspecting mall-goers. Premiering for the first time in a mall in Mumbai, the flash mob activation was organized by High Street Phoenix and Warner Bros.

True to the concept, at around 4.45 PM, a group of youngsters began to groove to ‘Black or White' by Michael Jackson and within minutes, a crowd of onlookers gathered to cheer them on. The six-minute performance took place twice and saw Erik and Mumble also shaking a leg. As the dance drew to a close, kids and elders alike took the opportunity to have themselves photographed with the two characters.
