The Hero Honda Indian Open golf tournament took place from December 2 to 5 at the Delhi Golf Club, and saw members of the international golfing circuit vie for the winning position and the prize of US $1.25 million. In its 47th year, the entire event was telecast on ESPN-Star Sports, as opposed to just the last two days of the event. Hero Honda Motors Ltd has been the title sponsor of the property for six consecutive years.

Speaking about golf in India and the organisation's commitment to the development of the sport, Pawan Munjal, MD & CEO, Hero Honda Motors Ltd, said "Golf is today the fastest-growing sport in the country - both in terms of popularity and infrastructure. Golfing facilities in the country today are comparable to global standards. Many years ago, we at Hero Honda made a commitment for the promotion of Golf in India, and it gives us immense satisfaction today to see our golfers being ranked amongst the best in Asia and making their mark on the European circuit and even in the US PGA Tour. The live telecast of the event on all four days will go a long way in further popularizing the game amongst youngsters. "

On the property's growth, Manjit Singh, Vice President, Indian Golf Union said, "The event has grown in stature and has a rich history. Our own golfers have done the country proud with their achievements in this sport, and we have an excellent crop of youngsters coming up, too. Many of the current top pros have come through the programmes initiated by the IGU and I am confident that this trend will continue. We look forward to a long, healthy and rewarding association with professional golf that will substantially contribute to the growth and improvement of golf in India."
