Cineyug executes “azaadi” independence day event for Life Ok
Wed 01 August 2012
Every year, in honour of Independence day, most television channels conduct independence day specials. Cineyug Worldwide has executed many of these "Azaadi" (freedom) special events for various channels in the past.

This year, they executed an "Azaadi event" for Star Network's Life Ok channel. The event was held on July 28 at RK Studio in Chembur, Mumbai, and will be telecast on the channel on Aug. 15. Cineyug was responsible for directing, managing and executing the event. This was the first full event that was hosted by actor Irfan Khan.

The event centred around independence - both the pre- and post-independence periods. In keeping with the same, the 10 acts that took place focussed on an underlying message. In the pre-independence section, there was the Mangal Pandey act by Karanvir Bohra, whose subtext was Awaaz Uthao; the Rani Lakshmi Bai act by Kratika Sengar, with the subtext of courage; a Bhagat Singh and Subhash Chandra Bose act by Sushant Singh and Kinshuk Mahajan, whose subtext was Bagawaat; a Gandhi act by Ayush Khedekar, which featured children, whose subtext was peace; and a freedom fighters act, whose subtext was Azaadi.

In the post independence section, there was a celebration act by Mouni Roy, Adaa Khan and Helli Shah, who performed an act about the celebration after independence, featuring the flavour of states like Maharashtra, Gujarat, Punjab, the southern states, etc. Manoj Tiwari also performed to his song Jiya Tu from Gangs of Wasseypur, thus bringing in the Bihari flavour. Siddharth Shukla and Manish Raisinghania then performed an act with the theme of "warning to all terrorists".

An act focusing on the power of women, with the understanding that a woman who can do household chores can also run a country, was conducted in four parts. These consisted of a Malkhamb act, where a girl showed her power of strength; a storyboard, created by sand artist Nitish Bharti, displaying the power of women; a dance number by Sanjeeda Shaikh; and an AV about women achievers such as Mother Teresa, P T Usha and Kiran Bedi.

The last two acts focused on the problems faced by the common man along with their solutions, performed by Rithwik Dhajani; and hope that all issues would be solved. The section focusing on the hope for the future was performed by children - the future of India. Ayush also performed again and invited the celebrities onto the stage to join them. There was also a skit by Anang Desai and Sunil, which dealt with the problems of the common man, titled "kya badi baat hai".

Commenting on their executing the event, Mohomed Morani, Director, Cineyug Worldwide said: "We do an Azaadi themed show for a TV network every year. This year, we approached Star Network to do the show with Life Ok since they have become very good with events. We presented them with our concept, which they really liked. The whole focus of this event was how the common man can make a change; what do the people feel about azaadi?"
