Sarita Raghuvanshi hosted the Prestigious GEM-TECH Awards 2016 at Thailand, the host country this year. She is the first Indian to host the Annual awards by the United Nations Women, an initiative to promote Gender Equality and Mainstreaming in Technology (GEM-TECH). It is organised by the ITU, the United Nations specialized agency for Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs). There were 300 unique nominations from across the world out of which three winners were chosen and awarded on that very special evening at the IMPACT Exhibition and Convention Centre, Bangkok.The event saw the presence of many distinguished personalities including Tupouto'a' Ulukalala , the Crown Prince of Tonga, Mr. Houlin Zhao, ITU Secretary General and other dignitaries from the UN and IT Moguls from across the Globe. This year’s event showcased the significance of the Global Initiative created by the United Nations ITU and UN Women: EQUALS , which stands for Gender Equality in the Digital Age and, aims to bridge the Gender Gap Globally to create equality for women and girls in the tech by providing equal access to technology, offering more opportunities to develop and hone their skills and promoting women to become leaders and entrepreneurs.
